The Federal Ministry of Health’s Expanded Immunization Program concluded its cholera outbreak response campaign in the states of Kassala (Khashm El Girba), Gadarif (Gadarif Municipality and shelter centers), and River Nile (Atbara, Al Damer, and Berber localities), achieving a coverage rate of 98% over six days.
In a press statement, Mohamed Al-Hussein Al-Haj, Head of the Federal Coordination Room for the campaign, reported that the initiative targeted 1,407,188 individuals aged one year and older. River Nile State achieved a full 100% coverage, Gadarif Municipality reached 99%, and Kassala’s Khashm El Girba locality reached 89%—results he described as excellent for helping reduce cholera cases and fatalities.
Al-Haj extended his appreciation to campaign workers at all levels, including volunteers, administrative units, localities, state governments, and health ministries, stating, “This support motivated us to make the campaign a success.”
He announced plans for further campaigns in other affected localities, adding, "Despite the progress made, vaccination efforts must continue."
