The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have successfully repelled a surprise offensive launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in the southeastern Blue Nile region. A military commander confirmed that the RSF deployed two battalions in a bid to breach army defensive positions in the recently recaptured area of Al-Birka. The assault was comprehensively broken, with the attacking forces sustaining heavy casualties and significant losses in military hardware. Army artillery subsequently targeted the retreating militia remnants as they fled towards the border town of Kurmuk.

Military sources anticipate a further escalation in hostilities, given that army units are now dug in just a few kilometres outside the strategic town of Kurmuk. The town, located near the Ethiopian border, is currently being used as a stronghold by the RSF. This proximity turns the sector into a critical flashpoint, with intensive military operations underway to fully secure the international border.
