The Arab League Condemns Militia Violations in Al-Jazirah

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, strongly condemned the severe human rights violations by the Rapid Support Forces militia in Al-Jazirah State over the past days, which, according to UN reports, included mass killings, assaults on women and girls, widespread looting of markets and homes, and large-scale burning of farms.

In a statement on its official website, the Arab League called on the international community to intensify efforts to stop these crimes and hold those responsible accountable.

Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesperson for the Arab League, stated that the ongoing perpetration of such heinous crimes, some of which amount to ethnic cleansing in Darfur and various regions of Sudan despite repeated international condemnations, is further evidence of the urgent need for coordinated international and regional efforts to end the war and hold criminals accountable. He emphasized the importance of not allowing the international and Arab focus to be diverted, amid Israeli occupation crimes in Gaza and Lebanon, as an opportunity to undermine Sudanese state institutions and threaten the country’s unity and territorial integrity.
