Aqar Reaffirms the Government's Commitment to Facilitate Humanitarian Aid Delivery to Those in Need

Port Sudan – Deputy Chair of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Malik Aqar Eir, reiterated the Sudanese government's commitment to facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need and supporting the work of relief teams and humanitarian workers.
During his meeting in Port Sudan today with a UNICEF delegation led by Edward Shifaan, Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, and Raouf Mazou, Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees, he reviewed the efforts made by the government to open various border crossings and local airports to allow the entry of humanitarian aid and facilitate the work of organizations.
He emphasized the importance of providing all necessary services to citizens affected by the war.
For his part, UNICEF's Deputy Executive Director, Edward, explained that the meeting addressed the situation in Sudan and how to support the Sudanese people under current conditions, stressing the urgent need to deliver humanitarian supplies from the perspective of UNICEF and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
He reaffirmed his readiness to continue his support and coordination in collaboration with the Government of Sudan to facilitate access to those in need in different parts of the country, especially in Zalingei and Kadugli. The importance of facilitating the delivery of aid across borders by land and air, he emphasized, commending the Government's role in opening various airports, which has helped reach many people facing acute food shortages. He noted nearly 4 million children are at risk of acute malnutrition and daily infections.
Raouf Mazou added that the meeting discussed the conditions of internally displaced persons and the large number of displaced individuals, estimated at over 10 million, highlighting the necessity of providing protection and assistance to them.
He further mentioned that the delegation addressed the situation of Sudanese citizens abroad, with approximately one million Sudanese in neighboring countries receiving protection and assistance from these countries, which requires resources from the international community to overcome existing challenges and mobilize necessary resources to ensure the continuation of aid efforts.
He emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination to fulfill the required role, noting that UNICEF and the Refugee Commission will remain active in humanitarian issues amid the current circumstances facing the country.
