Al-Burhan Meets with Director of the International Organization for Migration

Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met with the Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) yesterday, joined by the Minister of Interior and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The IOM Director shared in a press statement that the number of Sudanese refugees continues to surge due to the ongoing conflict, reaching unprecedented levels. She emphasized that while the organization is providing substantial assistance to refugees, it is still insufficient to meet the needs of Sudanese citizens who have lost homes, jobs, and livelihoods.

She also discussed her meetings with officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior to enhance service coordination for refugees and improve resource allocation, describing her meeting with General al-Burhan as constructive and productive.

Minister of Interior Major General (Ret.) Khalil Basha Sairin noted that the IOM Director’s visit aims to observe the humanitarian impact of the conflict firsthand, assess current needs, and provide essential aid, particularly as large numbers of Sudanese have taken refuge in neighboring countries. He also highlighted Sudan’s role in hosting significant numbers of refugees from surrounding nations.

He expressed optimism that the IOM Director’s visit would contribute to alleviating Sudan’s humanitarian challenges, including internal displacement and the strain of the refugee crisis on neighboring countries.
