The Government of Sudan has condemned in the strongest terms the attack carried out by the rebel militia targeting the United Nations mission headquarters in Kadugli, South Kordofan State.
In an official statement, the government asserted that this flagrant aggression constitutes more than a mere security breach; it serves as damning evidence of the destructive approach adopted by the rebel militia. It further underscores their persistence in violating all international charters and norms, including the sanctity of UN premises and the safety of humanitarian and peacekeeping personnel.
The statement indicated that the targeting of international facilities reflects the militia’s reckless disregard for the lives of civilians and UN staff. This incident adds to a record rife with violations against civilian infrastructure and service institutions across the country, a pattern previously demonstrated by their assaults on embassies and diplomatic missions during their widespread deployment in Khartoum following April 2023.
The Sudanese government renewed its call for the international community and the United Nations to designate these forces as a terrorist group and to take firm, deterrent measures against their practices, which continue to threaten regional and international peace and security.
