Khartoum, Sudan: The Higher Committee for Autumn Emergencies in Khartoum State, chaired by Dr. Saral Khatim Fadl al-Mullah, the Director-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, convened today to review reports on the flood situation, epidemics, and environmental health.

Reports from the Roads and Bridges Corporation and Water Drainage Authority confirmed that the current flood wave has passed safely due to the measures implemented by the authority, including the closure of gates and the raising of embankments. However, the committee remains vigilant, anticipating a potential new wave in the coming days.

Regarding the epidemiological situation, the Minister of Health's report indicated that cases of acute watery diarrhea are confined to the northern entrance of the state and have been contained following prompt interventions, including controlling flies, managing waste disposal, monitoring food, and chlorinating water. Isolation rooms have been prepared, and all necessary medical supplies and disinfectants have been provided to address any potential emergencies.

The report also highlighted efforts to combat dengue fever and malaria through the distribution of mosquito nets and ongoing campaigns to control mosquito breeding.

The Executive Director of Kariri Locality reported an increase in the amount of waste collected, contributing to the reduction of fly proliferation. The meeting also expressed satisfaction with the commencement of Zakat (Islamic alms) distribution to those affected by the rains.

In summary, the Khartoum State Emergency Committee is closely monitoring the flood situation and taking proactive measures to mitigate potential health risks and provide relief to affected communities.
