Dr. Mona Ali Mohamed, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Resources, revealed that Khartoum State has been exposed to chemical pollution as a result of attacks by the rebel Rapid Support Forces on industrial areas. She emphasized the need for collective efforts to find solutions to this issue.
During a training workshop on the dangers of chemical materials held today at the Customs Hall in Port Sudan, Dr. Mona stated that Khartoum, in particular, requires significant efforts to prevent any potential negative consequences.
Dr. Mona added that chemical pollution is common due to the presence of chemicals in many products at varying levels, which can lead to pollution. This necessitates intensive awareness campaigns at the national, state, and local levels, as well as among individuals.
Additionally, she addressed international agreements on managing hazardous materials, noting that Sudan is a signatory to these critical protocols.
Today, the Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Resources held its second training workshop on identifying prohibited and restricted chemical substances and hazardous waste. The workshop, attended by Police Colonel Abu Bakr Hanfi and several related institutions, will conclude on Thursday.
