Port Sudan – Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, Minister of Finance and head of the Justice and Equality Movement, emphasized the necessity of imposing strict conditions and regulatory controls by government authorities, represented by customs, the National Standards and Metrology Authority, and the General Intelligence Service, before extending the opening of the Adre border crossing with Chad.
In a recent Facebook post, Dr. Jibril outlined two key conditions for reopening the border crossing. The first condition requires deploying a Sudanese oversight team, composed of customs, metrology, and intelligence officials, stationed on both sides of the crossing under international protection to ensure security and compliance. The second condition mandates the installation of X-ray scanners at the border, enabling customs authorities to conduct accurate inspections of goods passing through the crossing.
These measures aim to strengthen regulatory oversight and secure the border as part of Sudan's broader efforts to ensure safe and controlled trade and travel with Chad.
