Port Sudan - The Workers' Union has called on the International Labour Organization (ILO) to give more attention to labor issues in Sudan and to play an active role in overcoming the challenges faced by workers, particularly in light of the severe damage to labor infrastructure caused by the war with the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia.
During a discussion session held with the ILO delegation, led by the Country Director in Port Sudan, the Workers' Union raised concerns regarding labor rights, responsibilities, and the bodies representing and overseeing workers' issues. The session focused on identifying potential solutions to these pressing challenges.
Engineer Youssef Abdel Karim, head of the Workers' Union, emphasized the urgent need to support workers and create a suitable environment for labor-related activities.
Union members, including Engineer Youssef, called for productive partnerships between the ILO and the three key labor stakeholders in Sudan: the Workers' Union, the Employers' Union, and the government. They emphasized the importance of increased communication to address urgent issues.
