Dr. Ayman Badri, Director of UNESCO's office in Khartoum, confirmed that the organization has not stopped working but rather relocated its office from Khartoum to Port Sudan, the administrative capital that has replaced Khartoum, which was affected by the war launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
During his speech at the inauguration event of the new office in the Airport District of Port Sudan, attended by representatives from various organizations, including Mohamed Saeed from the Adult Education Council and Dr. Abdelkader Abdallah Abu, Secretary-General of the National Council for Child Welfare, Badri expressed pride in opening the new office. He emphasized UNESCO's commitment to working across five key sectors: education, culture, communication and information, social and human sciences. He assured attendees that UNESCO will continue to provide support to help Sudan meet its development goals.
On his part, Dr. Abdelkader Abdallah Abu, Secretary-General of the National Council for Child Welfare, expressed his happiness with the office opening, thanking the organization for its support in education, agriculture, and vocational training. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to working methodically, expressing confidence in UNESCO’s office to continue working on these exceptional projects. He also stressed the council’s role in protecting and supporting children, reducing school dropouts, ending homelessness, and providing full protection for shelter and livelihood.
During the opening, a cooperation agreement was signed between the National Council for Literacy and Adult Education, UNESCO's Sudan office, and the National Commission for UNESCO.
The agreement includes a commitment to mutual cooperation between the Council and UNESCO to support and enhance efforts from October 2024 to October 2025, including the organization of six workshops in the field of literacy and adult education.
