The Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Inspects Agricultural Crops in the Northern Region of Gedaref State

The Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bushra, accompanied by the Acting Governor of Gedaref, Dr. Ahmed Al-Amin Adam, and the Deputy General Manager of the Sudanese Agricultural Bank, Dr. Izz Al-Din Faqiri, conducted a field inspection this morning of various agricultural crops in the northern region (Abkashma area), continuing his inspection tours of the agricultural season in Gedaref State on its third day. The visit was attended by the General Manager of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources, Engineer Ammar Abdullah Suleiman, several members of the state government, the General Manager of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in Sennar State, Mr. Al-Hadi Al-Sadiq, and some directors of agricultural administrations and agencies.

The Federal Minister praised the outstanding agricultural practices applied to the crops, which have reached advanced stages of maturity. He affirmed that the ministry had adopted a strategy early this year to embrace agricultural technology to increase land productivity and collaborate with relevant parties to market crops at profitable prices. The minister confirmed that the agricultural season had been an unprecedented success, with production sufficient to meet the country's food needs, refuting rumors of a famine in Sudan. He also commended the efforts of farmers and production partners in making this agricultural season a success.

The Acting Governor of Gedaref hailed the combined efforts of the production partners in achieving these results despite the exceptional circumstances the country and state are facing due to the war. He noted the state's plans to secure the crop harvests and preserve them, a responsibility overseen by the State Security Committee. He urged the Ministry of Agriculture and other authorities to support farmers by providing sacks and ensuring efficient crop marketing.

Dr. Izz Al-Din Faqiri, the Deputy Director of the Agricultural Bank, assured that the bank is ready to finance harvest operations and provide inputs for the winter season. He pledged to work with the state government to resolve any challenges faced by farmers. Meanwhile, the General Manager of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources noted the importance of Gedaref State in addressing the country's food shortages, as several other states have been unable to contribute due to the war.

Officials from Sennar State and the Ministry of Finance also praised the crucial role farmers play in supporting the economy and ensuring food security.

Later in the day, the Federal Minister and the Acting Governor visited the Horticultural Products Exhibition at the General Department of Horticulture in Gedaref.
