The convoy, destined for the Red Sea State, specifically the areas of Arbaat and Tokar, which were severely affected by recent floods and torrential rains, was launched following devastating losses, including multiple fatalities, the death of a substantial number of livestock, and the collapse of tens of thousands of homes. The event took place at the Government Secretariat in the presence of members of the state's security committee, the Secretary-General of the government, ministers, tribal leaders from the Beni Amer and Halanga tribes, as well as various community leaders.
In his address during the convoy's farewell, the Deputy Governor commended the Youth Union for their initiative in aiding the victims in the Red Sea State. He remarked that the convoy, which cost 102 million Sudanese pounds, represents a profound societal gesture and a sense of solidarity from the youth towards their affected brothers, rooted in bonds of kinship and faith. He praised the collective response from Kassala’s community and institutions in supporting the convoy, calling it a demonstration of standing together on a new battlefield of dignity.
He further underscored that the Kassala State Government fully endorses and encourages such initiatives, highlighting the unity and cohesion present within the state's society, strengthened by its social fabric. He also lauded the community's solidarity with those displaced to Kassala due to the war, despite the immense pressure it has placed on local resources.
Dr. Ali Adam, the Minister of Health, emphasized the initiatives undertaken by the youth group in collaboration with the Ministry, particularly in the health sector. He noted that the convoy would address the pressing needs of the affected areas through its health programs, medical treatments, and the provision of essential medicines, especially those required due to the impact of floods and heavy rains.
Ali Ibrahim Daklal, the tribal leader of Beni Amer, expressed his gratitude for the support demonstrated by Kassala’s community towards the youth group and the convoy, which represents the collective will of the people of Kassala. He explained that the delay in sending the convoy was due to road closures, which allowed the group to organize more effectively and ensure the convoy was well-prepared, focusing on the critical health needs.
Musa Hemd, the Secretary-General of the Youth Union, outlined the convoy’s components, which include 1,000 food baskets, each weighing 25 kg, in addition to tarpaulins, clothing, blankets, and medicines for various illnesses, especially chronic diseases. He stated that the convoy serves as a symbol of Kassala’s community solidarity with the Red Sea State, particularly with those in the hardest-hit areas. The convoy’s programs, set to last five days, have been coordinated with the Red Sea State Government and local community leaders.
He also expressed his gratitude to all the entities that contributed to the preparation of the convoy, which is being sent under the sponsorship of the Beni Amer leader and the supervision of the Acting Governor of Kassala. The Executive Director of Kassala Locality, Idris Mohammed Ali, and a representative of the Habab tribal leader also spoke at the event, commending the youth group's efforts and the spirit of community support for the victims in the Red Sea State.
