Salah Hamid Al-Wali, Deputy Chairman of the Sudan Liberation Forces Gathering and Minister of Agriculture in the Darfur Regional Government, welcomed the positive statement issued by the African Peace and Security Council regarding the situation in Sudan. He commended the Council's request for the Chairperson of the African Union Commission to reopen the African Union liaison office in Sudan.

In his statement, Al-Wali emphasized the group’s appreciation for the Council's insistence on the importance of preserving Sudan's state institutions. He also noted their respect for the Council's clear condemnation of the crimes and violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces against citizens and civilian properties, which have led to an unprecedented humanitarian disaster in Darfur and other conflict-affected areas. He reiterated the Council's urgent call to lift the siege on Al-Fasher and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Al-Wali further expressed gratitude for the Council's call to implement the agreements reached in the Jeddah Declaration. He acknowledged that while the African Union's intervention came late, it is still not too late for the organization to play a more effective role in promoting peace and security on the continent. He highlighted that Africa has become a stage for settling accounts among major powers, with African citizens paying the price in blood, development, health, and national security, especially in light of the revealed weakness of the United Nations system and its monopolization by specific powers to serve their interests at the expense of the continent's peoples.

Al-Wali emphasized the pressing need to revitalize the continent's institutions to address common challenges in security, stability, development, and combating corruption. He called for collective efforts to safeguard Africa from the ambitions of modern-day colonialism.

In conclusion, he reiterated the importance of a Sudanese-led dialogue to resolve the social fragmentation and instability that the country has endured since its independence.
