The Ashkit border crossing welcomed a large number of Sudanese who fled to Egypt due to the war. This return occurred as part of voluntary repatriation following the joyous news of victories across the country, alongside the deportation of several individuals who violated entry regulations.
The number of people returning to the country through the Ashkit crossing reached 7,890 in August and 12,539 in September, the majority of whom were families.
Sources indicated that the decision of many Sudanese families to return from neighboring Egypt was closely linked to the victories of the armed forces and the recent reclaiming of territories in Khartoum State, as well as various cities in Sudan by eliminating the rebel militias. This coincided with calls from the Governor of Khartoum State for families to return to their homes following the stabilization of the situation in Omdurman, Bahri, and large parts of Khartoum.
The source stated that the relevant authorities in the Arab Republic of Egypt are facilitating and easing the voluntary return process to Sudan through the land crossings in Halfa. It is expected that in the coming days, there will be significant movement at the Halfa crossings as many Sudanese families return to the embrace of their homeland.
