Minister of Finance Emphasizes the Importance of Accelerating Funding for the Winter Agricultural Season to Ensure Its Success

Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, stressed the need to expedite procedures for implementing the $100 million allocated by the African Development Bank Group’s Development Fund to finance agricultural inputs and operational requirements for the upcoming winter season to ensure its success.

In a meeting with Eddie Rowe, Resident Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Sudan, the minister emphasized the value of having WFP execute the financing as a third party to support the government’s efforts to secure essential agricultural inputs for the winter season.

Eddie Rowe noted that the funds have been approved for the second phase of the wheat production project, aimed at ensuring the availability of essential food security crops in Sudan.

The meeting, which also included Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Bushra and Planning Undersecretary at the Ministry of Finance Mr. Mohamed Bashar, discussed the requirements for the season, including improved seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs, as well as determining quantities and exploring funding avenues to complete preparations for the winter season.
