The Governor of Khartoum, Mr. Ahmed Othman Hamza, emphasized that the state is highly committed to sustaining the operations of the takiya (charitable kitchens) and providing support to them, as they play a vital role in providing food for residents who have not left the state. During his visit today to the takiya in Old Omdurman, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Khartoum State Government, Mr. Al-Hadi Abdelsayed, the governor noted that the takiya have helped citizens who returned to Omdurman to settle down. He also stated that there are significant challenges due to the increasing number of people arriving from other states, which requires directing more support and food supplies.
The governor praised the charitable contributions from both within and outside the country that have supported the takiya. Additionally, he mentioned that the state has established a department dedicated to managing the takiya, which is currently surveying these kitchens. So far, over 500 takiya have been documented as part of creating a database in preparation for launching a support program for them.
