The Governor of Khartoum, Ahmed Osman Hamza, welcomed members of the Beni Helba Coordinating Committee at his office today. The delegation was led by Prince Mohammed Moussa Ahmed, chief of the Beni Helba tribe from Central Darfur, and joined by Major General Hassan Ali Mohammed Saleh, Director of the Khartoum State Security Authority.
The governor praised the national role played by the tribe in the independence of Sudan, noting that the chief of the tribe and its representative in Parliament proposed the declaration of independence from within the Parliament.
The governor further stressed that although many individuals from Darfur have been coerced or enticed into joining rebel movements, such actions should not lead to the condemnation of entire tribes. He emphasized that rebellion is not bound by tribal affiliations. He encouraged the coordinating committees to extend their efforts across all groups, regardless of tribe or background, to maintain unity. He praised the committees for recognizing the threats to Sudan’s stability and their involvement in the Battle of Dignity to preserve the nation's unity.
For their part, members of the Beni Helba Coordinating Committee confirmed that they are in contact with various coordinating committees in Darfur states, as the current phase requires reinforcing the victories of the armed forces and other regular forces participating in the Battle of Dignity.
They indicated that this meeting underscores the importance of Khartoum State as the capital of Sudan, affirming that members of the tribe are currently fighting alongside the armed forces and will not cease their support until complete victory is achieved.
