International Labour Organization Discusses Labour Issues in Sudan

A joint meeting of the International Labour Organization (ILO) delegation, led by the Qatar Director of the organization, focused on labor-related issues in Sudan. This meeting included representatives from three labor partners: the Trade Union Federation, the Employers' Federation, and the government, represented by the Ministry of Labour and Administrative Reform.

In remarks made after the meeting in Port Sudan, acting Minister of Labour and Administrative Reform, Ahmed Ali Abdel Rahman, expressed: "We have been anticipating the arrival of this delegation since the General Assembly meeting of the organization last June, during which Sudan gained membership in the Executive Board." He explained that the delegation's visit aims to assess Sudan's requirements and needs regarding post-war reconstruction and to address the country's challenges.

"We held discussions and presented our issues, and we were assured by the Qatar Director of the organization that his delegation has full authority to listen and consider solutions to these problems," he stated. The delegation emphasized its commitment to focusing on training and capacity-building in agricultural, industrial, health, and educational sectors, along with expediting the opening of an office in Port Sudan.

The minister also noted that the meeting addressed the significant challenges Sudan has faced due to the devastating war led by the Rapid Support Forces, and the delegation understood this issue.

The delegation's visit will continue, with plans to meet in the coming days with various labor organizations and state officials.
