Khartoum - During his visit to the Housing and Development Fund Administration, the Governor of Khartoum, Mr. Ahmed Othman Hamza, uncovered significant looting and destruction of the housing projects, particularly in the peripheral areas like Al-Fatah, where doors, windows, and bricks were stolen, and the roofs were destroyed to steal iron bars.
In a meeting attended by the Secretary-General of the Khartoum State Government, Mr. Al-Hadi Abd Al-Sayed, and the Director of the Housing Fund, Engineer Murtada Mahjoub, the Governor urged the Fund’s administration to take immediate action. He requested a comprehensive report on the condition of the housing projects and the extent of the damage. He noted that many of the affected homes had already been handed over to their owners. The Governor also called for an inventory of the Fund’s assets, equipment, and vehicles located in safe areas, as well as an evaluation of contractors' entitlements.
The Governor also called for a review of the ongoing projects in safe areas and the possibility of resuming work on them, as well as adopting quick projects to compensate for the lost housing units.
He directed the immediate restoration of the Housing Fund's electronic system, as it is the main reference for safeguarding the rights of both the Fund and the citizens. The Governor highlighted that the Fund's projects had helped host citizens fleeing militia-held areas in search of safety, with the Al-Hara 76 multi-story complex hosting more than 5,000 families.
The Governor also reviewed a report from the Fund’s Director and department heads on the precautionary measures taken to protect the Fund’s assets, building materials, and electrical supplies. The report further detailed the financial status and the value of assets tied to unfinished projects in Khartoum and Karari.
