The Commissioner of the Humanitarian Aid Commission in the Northern State, Dr. Abdel Rahman Ali Khairy, met today with a delegation from the Initiative of Sudanese University Professors (MAGSOU) in the Northern State, led by its general coordinator, Professor Ahmed Mohamed Zain. During the meeting, the Commissioner was briefed on the initiative's goals and programs. MAGSOU was established on August 16 of this year by a group of esteemed academics from various Sudanese universities in response to the ongoing war and the resulting hardships faced by citizens and university professors alike, including displacement, difficult living conditions, and uncertain futures.
The initiative aims to highlight the vital role of university professors in serving the community both during peacetime and, more significantly, during war and displacement. It focuses on providing humanitarian aid, as well as psychological, health, and educational support to displaced persons and refugees. Additionally, it seeks to support university professors and create a plan for participating in the reconstruction efforts, particularly for universities whose infrastructure has been affected by the conflict.
The Commissioner welcomed the initiative and affirmed the Commission's support for its proposals to meet community needs and address the living conditions, especially in the post-war period.
For his part, Dr. Said Jalal Said, the media secretary of the Sudanese University Professors Initiative (MAGSOU) in the Northern State, confirmed that the initiative's goals focus on providing material support by supplying essential items such as food, medicine, clothing, and shelter to displaced persons residing in shelters in cities and states. The initiative also aims to provide psychological guidance, assist with education, support colleagues, and innovate means of production in light of the war and displacement conditions.
He pointed out the methods and mechanisms for achieving the initiative's goals, which include financial donations, in-kind donations, educational support, psychological guidance, medical support, and collaborative efforts.
